Astrology Primers Writers' Guidelines
MyAstrology.net is looking for brief, introductory articles to include in our "Astrology Primers" series. If you are an astrology writer who can explain astrological concepts in concise, easy-to-understand, jargon-free language, we'd like to hear from you.
Articles can be on virtually any astrological topic not yet covered in our series. Articles from non-Western points of view (Vedic, sidereal, traditional, Chinese, etc.) are welcome. However, all writers should be clear and explicit in their articles as to which point of view they are discussing, especially if that slant differs from contemporary Western astrology.
Articles must be written with non-astrologers in mind! You are not necessarily writing for an astrologically literate audience. This series is designed for the non-astrologer. Use astrological jargon and technical terms sparingly, if at all. If you do use a technical term, define it in a way that a person with no astrological background can understand. This is more difficult than it sounds, especially if you are accustomed to speaking with or writing for other astrologers. Articles must be clear and grammatically correct. If you can't write a coherent sentence or paragraph, then you probably won't be able to explain complex concepts in simple fashion.
Article length: About 500 words is ideal, absolutely no longer than 1,000 words. These articles are intended to be brief, bite-sized chunks. If you can't say it in less than 1,000 words, then you need to re-think your approach or select a different topic. Yes, a short article will make it feel like you're "leaving out a lot of important details" -- but the details are not what we want here. The articles are intended to be brief overviews -- touch the high points, then get out.
Pay: There is no pay for these articles. However, each article will be accompanied by a bio, photo, and link back to your site. In addition, we will shortly add a "Contributors" page which will list each contributor with bio, photo, and link.
Rights: You retain ownership of your copyright, and we will publish your copyright notice along with the article. You grant us only the non-exclusive right to publish your article in the "Astrology Primers" section of our website in perpetuity. You are therefore free to publish the article elsewhere if you like, provided the subsequent publication does not require that we remove the article from our site. If you do republish, we ask that you include a statement that "This article was originally published at MyAstrology.net."
Miscellaneous: We reserve the right to accept or reject any submission. We reserve the right to edit any accepted submission to fit our length, style, and other requirements. Although we don't plan to do this, we reserve the right to remove any published article at any time, or to discontinue the entire service with or without notice. By submitting any material to us, you warrant that the material is your own original work, that you have the right to submit it for publication, and that it does not infringe on any copyrights or licenses owned by anyone else.
How to Submit: Before submitting, please look over the articles we currently have, so you can see what topics might be available and also get a sense of length, slant, approach, etc. If you would like to inquire about a topic before actually writing the article, please feel free to do so. Or you can submit the completed article.
E-mail inquiries and submissions to email@example.com. Please use a subject line of "Astrology Primers Submission" or something similar so that we recognize your e-mail is not spam. We will respond whether we accept or reject the article. Please allow a week or two to hear from us.
If your article is accepted, we will request a brief biography (100 words or less) and, at your option, a photograph to publish with your article. Also at your option, please include the website you would like us to link to in your bio and byline.
We appreciate your interest in writing for us, and we look forward to seeing your contributions!
